It’s time for good bosses to get credit

When was the last time you recognized your boss for something he or she did? Yesterday was Bosses' Day. Here is a collection of comments I have heard about some respected bosses around the country.

"My boss is never too busy to smile and say hello. He stops to chat and is interested in what I have to say. He knows my family and asks about them."

"I can disagree with my manager. In fact, she insists on hearing my ideas. She thanks me for my opinion."

"My supervisor never yells. He keeps his cool under pressure."

" I really appreciate it when he says please and thank you. It doesn't sound like it's that important but it matters to me."

" My boss trusts me. She doesn't peer over my shoulder or change all the words on my memos. She expects me to use good judgment and I do."

"My manager prefers to coach rather than criticize. He asks me how a problem happened and how I can correct it. He gives me suggestions but never blames or puts me down."

"I never grew until I worked for him. He gives me opportunities to try new things and learn new skills. Sometimes I'm nervous about tackling something, but he always says, 'I know you can do it.'"

"When I had problems at home, she didn't pry buy always listened when I needed to talk. She has high expectations, but during that time, I know she didn't push me. I appreciated that."

"My boss always takes the time to explain why he's asking me to do something. I like to know how my work helps our goals."

"I love the flexibility my boss gives me. I control my own schedule and work-hours. I like the freedom and accountability."

"I like my boss because he's straight with me. I know I can count on him to tell me what he likes and doesn't like about my work."

"He shares information openly, I don't have to hear it through the grapevine. He tells me what he can."

"We all know what she thinks, and that's important. Our goals are clear, so we can make our own decisions based on those priorities."

"My boss isn't afraid to take our concerns and recommendations to her superiors. We know she supports us."

"My boss doesn't play favorites. He's tough but fair."

"When a change is coming-like a new policy or procedure - he gets us together to talk about it."

"My boss can make a decision. She hears all the facts and arguments, then decides. She won't give in if political pressure is applied. In our work, indecision could really hurt us."

Why not take a moment and show your boss appreciation. It's never too late to say, "Thank you.
